Stories of Pointe-St-Charles

The following picture is actually based on a true story. "Jack" lived in Pointe-St-Charles in the 60's during his childhood up to his twenties. When he was still a teen, his Anglo friends and he fought with the Francophones for no other reason than it was "something to do". Intensifying violence between the gangs lead to the Francophones to one day catch "Jack" and hang him by his thumbs on the fence at the back of the funeral home. Luckily, the funeral home director quickly came out and freed "Jack". Don't feel bad for "Jack", he still has full usage of his thumbs and his gang's revenge was pretty harsh. They caught one of the Francophone's gang member and hung him by the neck. "But his hands were free and the funeral home director came out to help him down anyway, so he was fine."

This story actually has a happy ending. After that, violence did keep escalating between the gangs. When the Anglos took out the baseball bats, the Francos took to metal chains, so the Anglos got knives, so then the Francos got knives and stuck shaving blades on the metal chains. The next step would have been guns. "Jack" and his friends decided that was enough. They called a truce and invited the Francos. They had a big party where everyone got drunk and from that point on they became friends.
